Asda Urgently Recalls Sandals Over Serious Chemical Risk

An urgent recall has been issued for the George Ladies Double Buckle Flatbed Sandal sold at Asda due to a significant chemical risk. The affected products, available in lilac and sage colors, contain nickel levels that exceed the maximum permissible limit, posing potential health risks to customers, as confirmed by the Office for Product Safety and Standards.

Nickel is known to be a skin sensitiser, which can lead to allergic reactions for individuals who come into prolonged contact with items containing high nickel levels. The UK Health Security Agency highlights that skin contact with nickel may release trace amounts, increasing the risk of adverse reactions. This recall underscores the importance of adherence to safety regulations, such as the REACH regulations, designed to protect consumers from harmful substances.

Asda has instructed customers who purchased these sandals to cease use immediately and return the items to their nearest Asda store. Customers will receive a full refund without the need for a receipt. It is important to note that this recall does not affect sandals in any other colors.

In a statement regarding the recall, Asda confirmed, “Testing has confirmed that the rivet part of the trim may contain nickel levels that exceed the permissible limits under the REACH regulations. This may cause an adverse skin reaction to some customers.”

In addition to the sandal recall, Asda has also recently pulled its 10 Mini Duck Spring Rolls with Hoisin Dip from shelves due to an incorrect expiry date, rendering the product unsafe for consumption. Customers who bought this item with a use-by date of December 29 are advised to return it for a full refund.
