UPDATE: Montenegro has just launched an urgent initiative to address modern workplace challenges through artificial intelligence (AI). The first educational workshop, titled “Workplace Education – AI in the Context of Health and Safety at Work and Work-Life Balance,” was held at Plantaze AD today, following the 2025 Action Plan and the 2022-2027 Strategy for improving workplace health and safety.
The workshop aims to proactively engage employees with contemporary issues impacting health and safety at work, particularly focusing on mental health, chronic stress, and burnout syndrome. Authorities report that these issues are becoming increasingly prevalent due to the continuous use of digital tools and AI, which blur the lines between professional and personal life, raising the risk of burnout and health deterioration.
During the session, experts underscored the importance of social dialogue as a critical mechanism to mitigate the negative effects of algorithmic management. This approach aims to protect health and safety at work, prevent discrimination, and establish clear criteria for the collection and use of personal data. By doing so, it limits excessive employee surveillance and ensures respect for privacy.
Psychologist and HR consultant Danka Cetkovic addressed the audience, exploring whether AI is a friend or foe to health and work-life balance. She highlighted both the potential benefits and the inherent risks that AI introduces into modern work environments.
Additionally, Vladimir Krsmanovic, coordinator from the Trade Union of Montenegro (SSCG), discussed the necessity of incorporating additional elements into collective bargaining agreements, especially given the growing implementation of digital technologies and algorithmic management in the workplace.
The workshop signifies a pivotal moment in addressing not just the visible aspects of workplace safety, but also the less apparent challenges that impact employee well-being. Authorities urge that mental health is not solely a personal concern; it is crucial for sustainable productivity and quality services in any organization.
As Montenegro moves forward with its plans, this workshop serves as a crucial first step in fostering a healthier work environment. The next sessions are expected to dive deeper into practical solutions and strategies to combat these pressing issues.
Stay tuned for more updates as the situation develops.
