Nasarawa and Angola Forge Agricultural, Educational Partnership

Nasarawa State has strengthened its international relations by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bengo Province in Angola. The agreement, finalized on March 15, 2024, in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, aims to enhance cooperation in key sectors such as agriculture and education. This partnership seeks to leverage the strengths of both regions to foster socio-economic development.

During the signing ceremony, Governor Abdullahi Sule emphasized that the MoU is the outcome of thorough discussions between technical teams from both regions. The teams identified significant similarities between Nasarawa State and Bengo Province, particularly their geographical advantages, being close to national capitals — Abuja for Nasarawa and Luanda for Bengo. “We recognized common challenges and opportunities stemming from our proximity to the capital cities,” Sule stated.

He pointed out that both regions possess complementary strengths. While Bengo Province has established capabilities in various agricultural sectors, Nasarawa State aims to contribute its advantages in agriculture, mining, oil and gas, education, and health. This collaboration is expected to facilitate knowledge exchange, joint investments, and capacity building initiatives.

Investment Opportunities and Bilateral Growth

A notable feature of the partnership is the establishment of a One-Stop Investment Hub designed for Angolan investors interested in opportunities within Nasarawa State. Governor Sule described this initiative as crucial for simplifying the entry process, enhancing coordination, and ensuring effective project implementation.

Dr. Maria Antónia Nelumba, the Governor of Bengo Province, hailed the MoU as a historic milestone that symbolizes the growing ties between Nigeria and Angola. “The signing of this agreement transcends formal cooperation; it represents the fraternity between our peoples and our collective ambition to promote economic, environmental, and social development,” she said.

Nelumba further expressed confidence that the agreement would enable both regions to advance through structured collaboration and shared development goals. Following the MoU signing, both governors inaugurated the One-Stop Shop Investment House, which is situated at the headquarters of the Nasarawa State Investment Development Agency (NASIDA), alongside the Multi-Door Court in Lafia.

This partnership signifies a meaningful step towards enhanced bilateral relations and mutual growth between Nasarawa State and Bengo Province, showcasing the potential for collaborative efforts in addressing common challenges while tapping into shared opportunities for development.
