URGENT UPDATE: The renowned artist and designer Barbara Bjeliš has just launched her first solo exhibition, “Afterlight,” at the Gallery Center for Culture in Cetinje. This visual showcase opened to the public today, bringing an intimate and layered photographic series to art enthusiasts.
“Afterlight” is a significant photographic cycle that explores themes of belonging, transience, and the intersection of body and landscape through multiple exposures. Bjeliš’s innovative work utilizes a small analog camera, embracing chance as a co-author in her creative process.
This exhibition is particularly relevant, as it highlights the powerful dialogue between the intimate and the natural, merging personal narratives with the stunning landscapes of Durmitor. Bjeliš describes her unexpected arrival in Cetinje as pivotal: “I found myself in Cetinje by a twist of fate. While traveling through Montenegro, we stumbled upon this gallery, and I immediately felt a connection,” she stated. Following a discussion with gallery officials, she was thrilled to accept their invitation to exhibit her work.
The photographs displayed span nearly a decade, with some newly captured this year in Durmitor, adding a rich personal and temporal depth to the project.
Bjeliš, an accomplished designer from Zagreb, holds a master’s degree in visual communications from the Design Studies. In 2018, she founded Studio Kanu, and her works have been showcased in numerous exhibitions both domestically and internationally. Notably, she received the award for Best Film Poster at the SEECS Festival in Istanbul and currently resides in Oslo.
