Thug Dylan Finlay Jailed for Violent Attack on Partner in Newcastle

UPDATE: A violent incident in Newcastle has led to the conviction of Dylan Finlay, who assaulted his partner in a shocking display of aggression. The 22-year-old was just sentenced today after a court hearing revealed he violently lashed out following a message from his partner to her father.

Court documents reveal that on June 20, 2023, Finlay and his girlfriend returned to her home after visiting his mother. Upon discovering she had messaged her dad, Finlay erupted in rage, threatening, “I’m going to smash your house up.” This explosive outburst escalated quickly as he physically assaulted her in their shared space.

Witnesses reported that he first kicked a baby gate, causing it to come off its hinges, and subsequently emptied the contents of a kitchen bin all over the floor and walls. The emotional impact on the victim was severe; she felt “emotionally drained” and desperately wanted him to leave her alone.

The situation reached a climax when Finlay, refusing to calm down, slammed a door against his partner’s back as she tried to escape to the front door. Prosecutors described the scene as chaotic, with Finlay shouting abuse and behaving destructively.

In court at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court, prosecutor Clare Haswell detailed the disturbing episode, stating, “He got annoyed because she messaged her dad and called her a s***. When they got back to her house, he carried on calling her a s*** and got more worked up.”

Finlay, who resides on St Peter’s Road in Byker, faced charges of assault by beating and criminal damage. He pleaded guilty to the charges and has a prior conviction for possession of a bladed article from 2024, which resulted in a suspended sentence.

In a surprising defense, attorney Michael Gibson claimed Finlay believed his partner was cheating and was unaware she was simply communicating with her father. Despite this reasoning, the magistrates imposed a £200 fine, alongside a £100 compensation to the victim, with additional costs totaling £165.

The incident raises serious concerns about domestic violence and the emotional toll such relationships can take on victims. Authorities continue to stress the importance of seeking help and reporting abusive behavior.

As for Finlay, he now faces a grim reality as he grapples with the consequences of his actions. The victim’s statement reflects a deep emotional scar left by the incident, emphasizing the urgent need for awareness and prevention of domestic abuse.
