Prince William Becomes Patron of SAS Regimental Association

Prince William has been appointed as the new patron of the SAS Regimental Association (SASRA), the charitable arm of the United Kingdom’s elite special forces unit. This role allows the future King to act as the primary figurehead for the association, which focuses on the welfare of serving personnel, veterans, and their families.

The announcement comes after years of dedication to the armed forces. Prince William began his military journey at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, where he enrolled upon graduating from university in 2005. He completed a rigorous 44-week course as an Officer Cadet, officially becoming an officer in December 2006.

Military Career and Qualifications

Following his graduation, Prince William joined the Household Cavalry (Blues and Royals) as a second lieutenant. He commanded a troop of four Scimitar light tanks and was promoted to lieutenant within a year. In 2008, he undertook attachments with both the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the Royal Navy, where he gained vital flying skills. These experiences notably contributed to his later roles as a search and rescue pilot and air ambulance volunteer.

Currently, Prince William holds several official military titles, including Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps (AAC) and Colonel of the Welsh Guards. His extensive military background positions him uniquely to support the SAS Regimental Association’s mission.

His appointment as SASRA patron is deemed a “proud achievement” for the 43-year-old. In this capacity, he will focus on raising essential funds to enhance the association’s welfare efforts, ensuring that both current and former soldiers, as well as their dependants, receive the necessary support.

The SAS Regimental Association plays a crucial role in providing care and assistance to the members of the SAS and their families. With Prince William’s senior royal backing, the organization aims to strengthen its support network and enhance its long-term care initiatives.

This new role signifies not only an important addition to Prince William’s responsibilities but also a commitment to the well-being of those who serve in the UK’s armed forces. The association’s leadership looks forward to the positive impact his involvement will have on the lives of soldiers and their loved ones.
