UPDATE: Daily cold-water swims are gaining traction in Northern Ireland, with the Dunmurry Dippers leading the charge. These dedicated swimmers are braving the chilly waters of the Colin River every day, offering both physical and mental health benefits.
The group, founded by Pearse McCann in 2017, has transformed from a small gathering into a vibrant community. “I had a friend who hurt his back, and cold-water therapy was part of his recovery,” Pearse explained. “Since then, it has mushroomed into massive groups, and now we swim together daily.”
Diving into the water not only invigorates participants but also fosters a sense of community. “It’s brilliant to see the interactions,” Pearse noted. “People from all different walks of life come together, creating a unique bond in the water.”
Participants report that the experience is more than just a morning routine. “When you’re tired and groggy, a dip in the river sets you up for the day. Some mornings are tough, but once you swim, you feel energized and ready for action,” Pearse shared.
The evening swims offer a more relaxed atmosphere, perfect for winding down after a busy day. “There’s no rush, and it’s good for your body and muscles,” he added.
For those interested in joining this community of hardy swimmers, the Dunmurry Dippers invite newcomers to participate on Christmas Day at 9 AM. Follow their Facebook page for updates and to connect with fellow enthusiasts.
