Sam Vanderpump, a star of the reality show *Made In Chelsea*, and his wife, Alice Yaxley, recently shared intimate details about their wedding, which took place at Chelsea Registry Office earlier this month. The couple’s ceremony was marked by joy and reflection, particularly as Sam navigates significant health challenges following a diagnosis of end-stage liver disease.
In their first interview since their marriage, Sam, 28, revealed the emotional turmoil he experienced leading up to the wedding. He candidly expressed that the diagnosis had taken a toll on his mental health. “I was struggling emotionally in the weeks leading up to the wedding because of everything going on with my health,” he told HELLO! Magazine. “But I have been so over the moon happy these past few days.”
The couple chose to marry quickly, with the wedding arranged within four weeks, as they anticipated the birth of their first child, a son due on February 14, 2026. This decision was made in light of Sam’s health, which had deteriorated significantly after contracting flu in late 2024, leading to sepsis and subsequent liver and kidney failure.
Despite these challenges, the couple opted for a low-key wedding. Alice walked down the aisle in a white silk and lace gown, accompanied by her father, while Sam wore a classic white jacket paired with black trousers. “I was very nervous and very emotional,” he recalled, adding, “Alice looked absolutely stunning.”
Sam’s health struggles have been profound. After a near-fatal illness, he was diagnosed with irreversible end-stage liver disease and is currently on the transplant waiting list. He has publicly shared his journey to raise awareness about the signs of sepsis and the vital importance of organ donation, hoping to encourage others to register as donors.
Reflecting on his diagnosis, Sam described a moment of devastating clarity. “I received a notification on the NHS app,” he recounted. “It was a letter from King’s College. I opened it up, and it simply stated I was being sent for a liver transplant assessment.” This moment marked a turning point, leading him to confront the reality of his health situation.
In his discussions, Sam has also touched on the emotional impact of his diagnosis on his family, particularly regarding his father, who passed away seven years ago. “I always get sad when I think my dad’s never going to see his grandchild,” he said, revealing the weight of his fears and hopes for the future.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his health, Sam remains optimistic about the future. “A liver transplant is extremely successful. So I’m going to be here for my son. I know that,” he stated, reinforcing his determination to live a full life for his family.
Following their intimate ceremony, Sam and Alice plan to host a larger celebration in May 2027 after their son’s arrival. As they look forward to this next chapter, they have already chosen a name for their child: Marmaduke. Sam explained the significance of the name, linking it to his family’s history and his father’s aspirations for his brother.
Alice, who played a crucial role in Sam’s recovery by calling for medical help when he mistook his severe symptoms for flu, has been a steadfast support throughout their journey. Sam credits her with saving his life, highlighting the deep bond they share as they prepare to welcome their new addition.
As the couple navigates this challenging period, their love and commitment shine through, offering a hopeful narrative amid adversity. The full interview with Sam and Alice, along with exclusive wedding photos, is available in the latest issue of HELLO! Magazine.
