UPDATE: Two people have been rushed to the hospital following a serious crash on the East Lancs Road in Liverpool on Christmas Eve. Emergency services were alerted at 8:42 PM and arrived on the scene just four minutes later, responding to a two-vehicle collision that left multiple individuals trapped in wreckage.
The Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) confirmed that two fire engines and a specialized search and rescue team are currently working alongside Merseyside Police and the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS). As crews arrived, they found two occupants had already exited their vehicles, but two others remained trapped.
A spokesperson for MFRS stated, “Crews worked quickly to rescue the trapped individuals. One casualty was removed using a longboard, while the other required a full roof removal for extraction.” Both victims have been handed over to NWAS for medical care and transport to the hospital.
The incident, which occurred near Vikings Landing, has led to significant road closures in both directions along the East Lancashire Road, with diversions in place from Lower House Lane to Stonebridge Lane. Authorities are urging drivers to avoid the area due to ongoing emergency response efforts.
A large cordon has been established as emergency personnel continue their work. The situation is developing, and fire crews are beginning to scale down operations, but traffic disruptions are expected to continue as the investigation proceeds.
