Joe Marler, the former England rugby star, has teamed up with television presenter Davina McCall for a lighthearted wellness campaign under the brand Ancient + Brave. In a humorous new video, they embark on an unconventional journey to promote self-care and joy, with McCall leading the way.
In the clip, released on December 25, 2025, Marler, 35, joins McCall, 58, as she humorously declares her New Year’s resolution to “age disgracefully.” The video showcases their playful interactions as McCall guides Marler through various quirky wellness rituals. These include wearing sequins without reason, snacking on crisps in a hot tub, and even engaging in the primal act of screaming in the woods.
During a cozy chat over tea, McCall states, “I think resolutions should be joyous. Mine is to age disgracefully.” Marler responds with a cheeky remark: “Just like today. You’re a disgrace.” The duo’s dynamic is further illustrated as they bounce on trampolines, with McCall displaying enthusiasm while Marler appears more reserved.
The campaign emphasizes the importance of silliness and not taking life too seriously. McCall expresses this philosophy in her voiceover, noting that embracing a playful spirit is key to leading a happy life. They even venture out into the rain to “be at one with nature,” where Marler is taken aback when McCall lets out a loud scream. When it’s Marler’s turn to scream, McCall assures him that it is a form of mindfulness.
Their antics culminate in the hot tub, where Marler seeks a moment of peace, saying, “I’m just going to take a minute of peace. Just channel the inner peace.” However, he is soon disrupted by McCall crunching on crisps, prompting her to conclude, “That’s what today was all about right. Little rituals which make your life lovely.”
Marler, who has been open about his mental health challenges, appreciates brands that embrace a fun approach to wellness. “I love brands that don’t take themselves too seriously, but still do things properly,” he says. “Ancient + Brave is exactly that. Their products are world-class and help me feel my best.” He humorously adds, “Plus my wife is a big fan and pretty much told me to do it, so who am I to argue?”
In addition to this campaign, Marler has announced a new podcast titled Joe Marler Will See You Now, where he interviews celebrities while presenting them with unconventional challenges. Marler’s career, which began at a young age, includes a notable tenure with Harlequins and the England national team, where he played for twelve years, including stints with the British & Irish Lions and the Barbarians.
He has been candid about his mental health struggles and the impact they have had on his family. Marler has shared experiences of grappling with feelings of inadequacy and has sought support through counseling and therapy. His wife, Daisy, has been a crucial source of support, helping him navigate these challenges.
As the campaign continues to gain traction, both Marler and McCall aim to inspire others to find joy in the little things and embrace a more carefree approach to life. With their infectious energy and relatable antics, they are set to leave a lasting impression in the wellness space.
