Scotland’s Railway Raises Record £202,000 for Poppyscotland

UPDATE: Scotland’s Railway has just shattered fundraising records, announcing an incredible total of £202,000 raised for Poppyscotland in 2025. This remarkable achievement surpasses last year’s record of £154,344 and highlights the overwhelming generosity of ScotRail customers and partners.

The fundraising efforts kicked off in earnest this year, coinciding with significant events such as VE Day on May 8 and Armed Forces Day on June 28. Contributions came in various forms, including donations from customers and invaluable gifts-in-kind from both ScotRail and Network Rail. Notably, these efforts included free on-duty travel passes for Poppyscotland staff, retail space access in major train stations, and collection tins placed at ticket offices.

Volunteers played a crucial role at key stations including Glasgow Central, Glasgow Queen Street, Edinburgh Waverley, Haymarket, and Aberdeen, tirelessly engaging with passengers to promote the cause.

Paul McKay, ScotRail Communications Director, expressed pride in this record-breaking achievement, stating,

“We’re incredibly proud to have reached another record total in support of Poppyscotland. This reflects the incredible generosity of our customers and the dedication of our people.”

Paul Danks, Network Rail Scotland co-lead for the Armed Forces Employee Network, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the impact of community support:

“It’s inspiring to see the generosity of passengers and staff making such a difference. Supporting veterans and their families is something we do every day, and we look forward to continuing this partnership.”

Damian Doran-Timson, Poppyscotland Corporate Fundraiser, highlighted how vital the railway’s support is for veterans and their families, stating,

“On behalf of our veterans, Poppyscotland would like to express our gratitude to railway staff and the generous rail users who donate at our appeals.”

This record-breaking fundraising not only showcases the commitment of Scotland’s Railway and its customers but also demonstrates a profound community spirit. As Poppyscotland gears up for further initiatives, the railway’s support is pivotal in providing essential services to veterans and their families.

The implications of this achievement extend far beyond financial contributions. The support for Poppyscotland signifies a strong commitment to honoring those who have served. With ongoing partnerships and community engagement, Scotland’s Railway looks set to continue making a significant difference.

Stay tuned as we follow the developments of this impactful partnership and its ongoing benefits to the veteran community.
