Samsung Unveils New Dolby Atmos Soundbars Ahead of CES 2026

Samsung has announced two new high-end Dolby Atmos soundbars, the HW-Q990H and HW-QS90H, ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026. These models aim to enhance the home audio experience, with features designed to compete directly with existing market leaders.

The HW-Q990H is the successor to the acclaimed HW-Q990F, which has been rated as one of the best soundbars for immersive audio. This new model maintains a similar design to its predecessor, which includes a comprehensive system made up of four components: the main soundbar, two wireless rear speakers, and a wireless subwoofer. Together, they form an 11.1.4-channel Dolby Atmos setup, featuring seven channels in the front soundbar and two upfiring height channels. Each rear speaker is equipped with two angled surround drivers and an upfiring speaker, while the compact subwoofer houses dual eight-inch drivers.

Samsung has introduced two new audio processing technologies with the HW-Q990H: Sound Elevation and Auto Volume. According to Samsung, Sound Elevation “lifts dialogue toward the center of the screen for more natural sounding audio.” This feature aims to enhance clarity, particularly in dialogue-heavy content. The Auto Volume function promises to provide a consistent sound level across various channels and content, preventing abrupt changes in volume during advertisements or between different media.

While specific pricing and release dates have not yet been disclosed, previous models like the HW-Q990F launched at a price of $1,999 / £1,699 / AU$2,099. Typically, Samsung releases new soundbars in Spring, so consumers can anticipate availability in the coming months.

The HW-QS90H represents a different approach as an all-in-one soundbar. Unlike its counterpart, it does not require additional rear speakers or a subwoofer, though Samsung has not ruled out the possibility of adding these features later. This model boasts a 7.1.2-channel configuration with a total of 13 drivers, including a Quad Bass Woofer system featuring four bass drivers. This design aims to deliver robust low-end audio without the need for a separate subwoofer.

Notably, the HW-QS90H can be positioned in two ways: lying flat on a surface or upright for wall mounting. This dual configuration is not new to Samsung, as it was previously employed in the HW-QS700F in 2025, which received positive feedback during testing. As an all-in-one soundbar, the HW-QS90H competes with the Sonos Arc Ultra, which also features advanced audio capabilities.

As CES 2026 approaches, Samsung has not confirmed whether the new soundbars will include the Sound Elevation and Auto Volume features for the HW-QS90H. TechRadar plans to cover CES extensively, providing updates on these announcements and more.

With these new soundbar models, Samsung aims to solidify its position in the competitive audio market, offering enhancements that cater to discerning audiophiles and casual listeners alike. The anticipation surrounding these products reflects a growing demand for high-quality home audio solutions.
