Caitlin Clark, the standout guard for the Indiana Fever, recently shared exciting news about her upcoming signature sneaker during an appearance on the “New Heights” podcast, hosted by NFL stars Jason and Travis Kelce. The shoe, which is set to launch in spring 2024, marks a significant milestone in Clark’s career.
During the podcast, which aired on December 13, 2023, Clark reflected on the journey of creating her sneaker, a process that began in her senior season at the University of Iowa. She expressed enthusiasm about the challenges and creative aspects involved, stating, “It’s been one of the coolest things I’ve gotten to do. The most challenging part of it is you want it to be unique, but at the same time, I have to be comfortable wearing it.”
The design process includes innovative technology, and Clark mentioned that she is particularly excited about the various colorways, including one inspired by her favorite NFL team, the Kansas City Chiefs. She humorously suggested the possibility of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid wearing her shoe during games, underscoring her passion for both basketball and football.
Clark’s connection to the Chiefs is deep-rooted; she grew up in West Des Moines, Iowa, as a lifelong fan. Recently, Nike released an advertisement featuring Clark with the tagline “From Anywhere,” which includes cameos by the Kelce brothers. This campaign is designed to build anticipation for her sneaker’s release.
International Aspirations and Basketball Journey
In addition to her sneaker news, Clark discussed her recent experience at the USA Basketball camp held at Duke University from December 12 to 14, 2023. After facing injuries that limited her to just 13 games in the previous WNBA season, she expressed relief and excitement to practice alongside some of the world’s top players. “It kind of kicks off the next cycle, preparing for the Olympics,” Clark noted. “And we have the World Cup in 2026. Hopefully, I’m on the team for that, and obviously my goal is to be on the Olympic team for 2028.”
The podcast did not touch on the current negotiations regarding the collective bargaining agreement between the WNBA and its players’ association. Nonetheless, Clark and the Kelces engaged in light-hearted conversation about fantasy football and the upcoming NFL playoffs. Clark humorously revealed that avoiding last place in her fantasy league was her primary goal this season.
With the Chiefs missing out on the postseason, Clark stated she did not have a clear favourite in the playoffs. She did express admiration for New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, describing him as “incredible.” She also acknowledged the impressive performance of the Los Angeles Rams, demonstrating her broad appreciation for the sport.
As Clark prepares for the release of her signature shoe and continues her basketball career, her passion for both her sport and football remains evident. The upcoming months promise to be an exciting time for the young athlete as she balances her burgeoning brand with her aspirations on the court.
