RAF Typhoons have conducted a significant operation in Syria, collaborating with French aircraft to target an Islamic State facility believed to be storing weapons and explosives. The Ministry of Defence confirmed that precision-guided munitions were deployed on Saturday evening to strike multiple entrance tunnels leading to the underground complex, located near the historic city of Palmyra, a region known for its mountainous terrain. The area surrounding the installation was clear of civilian presence, ensuring minimal risk to non-combatants during the assault.
John Healey, the UK Defence Secretary, emphasized the country’s commitment to combatting the resurgence of the Islamic State. He stated that the UK will “stand shoulder to shoulder with our allies” in efforts to eliminate threats posed by the extremist group. Al-Shamie claimed responsibility for the assault at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue and was subsequently shot by police after committing multiple violent acts, including driving a car into pedestrians and attempting to enter the synagogue with a knife.
