Lifeguard Tragically Dies After Water Park Incident in Brazil

A lifeguard tragically lost his life following an incident at Wet’n Wild water park in Itupeva, Brazil, on March 12, 2024. **Guilherme da Guerra Domingos**, 24, was performing his duties when he dove into a pool to retrieve a tourist’s ring. According to a police report, he became trapped in the drainage system and ultimately drowned.

The incident unfolded at the park’s Water Bomb attraction. When Domingos did not surface after entering the water, his colleagues initiated a search. Other lifeguards promptly jumped into the pool, managed to pull him out, and began administering first aid while emergency medical teams were summoned.

Domingos was transported to **Nossa Senhora Aparecida Municipal Hospital**, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, as reported by local news outlets, including Sorocaba e Jundiaí.

Investigation and Safety Measures

According to park management, Domingos had worked at Wet’n Wild for over two years and was recently promoted to sector leader in October 2022. In a statement, the company clarified that the Water Bomb attraction does not feature a bottom drain. The hydraulic system relies on side drains that are positioned away from the pool’s exit and the water slide.

The city hall confirmed that the park is operating in compliance with all necessary regulations, stating, “The occupancy permit for each attraction has been submitted and is valid, as is the Fire Department Inspection Certificate (AVCB), which is also within its validity period.”

Following the incident, Wet’n Wild announced the temporary closure of the park. The company expressed its condolences and stated it is providing support to Domingos’ family while cooperating with local authorities as investigations proceed.

Domingos’ body was transferred to the **Forensic Medical Institute** in Jundiaí for examination before being released for burial in **Bragança Paulista**. This tragic event has raised concerns about water park safety protocols and the measures in place to protect both staff and visitors.
