Lagos and MTN Launch Y’ELLO Bus Park to Enhance Transport Hub

The Lagos State Government has entered into a partnership with MTN Nigeria to transform the Obalende under-bridge into a modern transport facility called the Y’ELLO Bus Park. This initiative, announced on January 27, 2026, aims to enhance mobility, safety, and environmental sustainability in one of Lagos’ bustling areas.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, shared the details of the project in a post on X, informing Lagos residents about the significant changes expected in the transport landscape. The redevelopment is designed to convert a previously neglected space into a secure and organized transport hub for commuters and local residents.

In his statement, Wahab emphasized that the initiative would replace an area characterized by deterioration with a functional public facility. He stated, “This redevelopment will convert what was once a notorious and degraded space into a functional, secure, and community-centred facility.” The Y’ELLO Bus Park will include an organized transport terminal, a recycling drop-off station, a road camp for the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) personnel and security agencies, over 60 public toilet fixtures, kiosks, and other essential amenities.

Safety and urban design are central to the project, aiming to reduce crime and improve overall visibility, particularly at night. Wahab noted that the design prioritizes “safety, health, and aesthetics,” with features such as solar-powered lighting to enhance visibility and improve the effectiveness of surveillance systems.

Environmental management is a critical component of this redevelopment. The project will introduce a biodigester system to sustainably manage wastewater produced within the park, alongside a dedicated recycling station to discourage illegal waste disposal. Wahab highlighted the importance of these initiatives, stating that they reflect the government’s commitment to responsible environmental practices.

Additionally, the Y’ELLO Bus Park project aligns with Lagos State’s climate goals. The incorporation of renewable energy solutions, such as solar panels, aims to enhance energy efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of the facility. Plans for tree planting are also in place to improve air quality and beautify the urban landscape.

Wahab concluded by reiterating the government’s vision of reclaiming public spaces to make them functional, safe, and sustainable for all residents. He said, “This project reflects our resolve to reclaim public spaces, make them functional, sustainable, and safe, and ensure they serve the needs of Lagosians in a modern, responsible way.”

The Y’ELLO Bus Park is expected to significantly enhance transport organization in the Obalende area, addressing key issues related to environmental management, security, and commuter welfare. The initiative represents a vital step forward in creating a cleaner, safer, and more resilient Lagos, fulfilling the state’s broader objectives for urban development and infrastructure improvement.
