A remarkable achievement in the world of sports has emerged as Jude Owens, a two-year-old snooker talent from Manchester, has set two Guinness World Records. Despite his small stature, Jude has become the youngest person to successfully execute a pool bank shot and a snooker double pot. His accomplishments have garnered attention and admiration from snooker enthusiasts around the globe.
Jude achieved his first record at just two years and 261 days old, completing a snooker double pot. Following that, he swiftly made history again by performing a pool bank shot, solidifying his status as a prodigy in the sport. His father, Luke Owens, expressed pride in his son’s natural ability and early start in snooker. “I think I realised once he put the cue through his fingers that it was dead natural the way he did it,” Luke remarked.
Adapting to the challenges of his height has been part of Jude’s journey. Initially, he struggled to reach the snooker table, leading to creative solutions for his practice sessions. “We used to have to use bar stools from anywhere that we went,” Luke explained. Eventually, the family sourced a stool that was initially intended for cooking, which Jude now uses to reach the snooker table comfortably.
Jude’s achievements are remarkable, particularly for someone so young. “For him to achieve not just one, but two world records, it’s probably the pinnacle moment,” Luke noted. He compared his own experience starting snooker at age ten to Jude’s early introduction, acknowledging his son’s impressive talent. “I’d say Jude’s got a lot more natural ability than myself,” he added.
The young player’s enthusiasm for the sport is evident. Jude admires professional snooker player Ronnie O’Sullivan and has gained a significant following on social media, where fans enjoy watching his trick shots and practice videos. When asked about his favorite shot, Jude confidently stated, “A trick shot.”
According to Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, Jude’s accomplishments highlight the inclusive nature of record-breaking. “Record-breaking has always belonged to everyone—regardless of age,” he said. “To see someone as young as Jude display such skill, enthusiasm, and determination is incredibly special.”
As Jude continues to develop his skills, the snooker community eagerly anticipates his future endeavors. His achievements at such a young age have not only set records but have also inspired many, proving that talent can emerge at any stage of life.
