Woman Charged with Murder of One-Year-Old on Isle of Wight

A 27-year-old woman has been charged with the murder of a one-year-old girl, following the child’s tragic death last year on the Isle of Wight. The infant, named Jayla-Jean Mclaren, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries on August 1, 2025, and tragically passed away two days later, on August 3, 2025. The accused, Samara Jay Glover, faces charges of murder and causing or allowing the death of a child.

According to Hampshire Police, Jayla-Jean was described as a ‘princess’ by her parents, who have expressed their grief over the loss. Glover, who resides on Dairy Crest Drive in Newport, is currently in custody as the investigation continues.

In a related development, a 31-year-old man from Newport was previously arrested on suspicion of murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and assault or mistreatment of a child. He has since been released on conditional bail, set to last until April 27, 2026.

Detective Chief Inspector Gemma Hunter addressed the public’s concern, stating, “We understand that cases such as this are incredibly concerning and upsetting. However, we kindly ask that you do not speculate on this case, as it could potentially impact any future court proceedings.” She assured the community that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.

The family of Jayla-Jean has issued a heartfelt statement, saying, “Mummy, daddy, and nanny will always love you. Fly high princess.” This case has drawn significant attention, highlighting the broader issues surrounding child welfare and safety.

As the investigation unfolds, the community remains in shock over the tragic loss of a young life, with many awaiting justice for Jayla-Jean.
