UPDATE: The funeral of beloved 11-year-old John Doole took place today at Mourne Presbyterian Church in Kilkeel, with mourners gathering to honor a life tragically cut short. John died following a road accident on July 11, 2023, leaving the community in deep sorrow.
During the service, Rev. William Bingham reflected on John’s profound impact, stating, “Although his life was short, he touched the hearts of many.” John was described as a “happy, content, thoughtful, gentle and kind wee boy,” whose spirit brought joy to those around him.
The emotional ceremony saw John’s parents, Wesley and Theresa Doole, express their gratitude to emergency services and medical staff at Daisy Hill Hospital for their support on that tragic day. Rev. Bingham emphasized the family’s pride in John, who was adored as their “little king.”
“He was a perfect wee gentleman, never rude or boisterous, but thankful and content with whatever he had,” Rev. Bingham said.
John was a student at Kilkeel Primary School, preparing to transition to Kilkeel High School this September. His teachers and classmates shared heartfelt tributes, highlighting his infectious smile and caring nature. “Everyone who met John fell in love with him,” one classmate remarked.
Rev. Bingham read touching messages from John’s peers, illustrating the deep connections he formed. “John was always excited to tell me what was on his mind,” said classmate Harry, while another named Zeta expressed that the class will deeply miss him.
South Down MLA Diane Forsythe attended the funeral, stating, “United in enormous grief today, we joined to give thanks for the precious life of John.” She offered her thoughts and prayers to the Doole family, emphasizing that John’s classmates will forever cherish their memories of him.
As the community grapples with this devastating loss, Rev. Bingham reassured attendees of the hope for reunion in the future, saying, “As God takes him back to Himself, we are comforted with the hope that when we love Jesus, we never say goodbye for the last time.”
