Two Arrested in Herceg Novi for Attempted Kidnapping of Bosnian Citizen

Authorities in Herceg Novi have arrested two men, identified as M.Š., 25, from Bijelo Polje, and M.Z., 30, from Novi Sad, on suspicion of attempting to kidnap a Bosnian citizen. The incident occurred on the night of February 7, 2026, and has raised serious concerns about safety in the area.

Details of the Incident

The Herceg Novi police department reported that they received an emergency call at 01:50 local time from a homeowner in Sutorina. The resident reported that two individuals had attacked a tenant, a Bosnian national staying in Herceg Novi. Following the attack, the suspects fled the scene.

In response, police officers implemented a series of operational measures that allowed them to quickly locate and apprehend the suspects. M.Š. and M.Z. were found, stopped, and taken into custody shortly afterward.

According to the police statement, the two suspects allegedly arrived at the victim’s residence in Sutorina, forcibly entered his apartment, and assaulted him while he was in bed. During the attack, M.Š. reportedly covered the victim’s mouth with a cloth while M.Z. continued to strike him with his fists and feet.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

It is believed that the suspects stole two mobile phones and €100 from the victim before attempting to force him into their vehicle, intending to take him to an unknown location. Their plans were thwarted when the homeowner intervened and threatened to call the police.

Following their arrest, the police informed the relevant prosecutor about the incident. The victim sustained minor injuries during the assault. Both suspects will be charged with attempted kidnapping and taken before the state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Herceg Novi.

Additionally, it has been noted that neither M.Z. nor the victim had reported their stay in Montenegro within the legal timeframe. Therefore, measures will be taken against them in accordance with the Law on Foreigners.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding safety and criminal activity in the region, prompting local authorities to enhance their vigilance and enforcement efforts.
