Chelsea Football Club has announced that artificial intelligence firm IFS will be the team’s front-of-shirt sponsor for the remainder of the season. This partnership marks a significant return to sponsorship for the west London club, which has been without a long-term shirt sponsor since their previous lucrative contract with mobile company Three concluded in 2023.
The agreement with IFS will see the company’s logo prominently displayed on the kits of both the men’s and women’s teams, starting with their upcoming matches. The men’s team, managed by Liam Rosenior, will debut the new shirts during their Premier League match on Saturday, while the women’s team, led by Sonia Bompastor, will wear them in their FA Cup fixture on Sunday.
Chelsea describes this deal as a “multi-year global partnership,” although specifics regarding the duration beyond the current season remain undisclosed. The club has also not revealed the financial details of the agreement.
IFS is recognized as a leading provider of industrial AI software, delivering tailored, context-specific solutions to major organizations worldwide. The announcement of this sponsorship comes approximately two and a half years after Chelsea’s previous deal with Three expired. During the interim period, sports data technology firm Infinite Athlete served as the club’s front-of-shirt sponsor under a short-term contract that began in September 2023. Last season, Chelsea operated without a primary shirt sponsor until a brief arrangement with DAMAC, an Emirati property development company, concluded in the final weeks of the campaign.
In a statement, Chelsea president Jason Gannon expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with IFS, stating, “We are incredibly proud to partner with IFS and leverage their leading-edge AI software to help propel the club to even greater success.” He emphasized the importance of this collaboration as a demonstration of the club’s commitment to harnessing advanced technology to enhance their performance both on and off the pitch.
As Chelsea moves forward with this new sponsorship, the implications of integrating cutting-edge AI technology into their operations could set a precedent in the sports industry, potentially influencing other clubs and organizations to explore similar partnerships. The upcoming matches will serve as a litmus test for the partnership, as both teams aim to capitalize on the fresh momentum brought by their new sponsor.
