Mercedes-Benz Launches CLA Electric in India, Promises 792km Range

UPDATE: Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled the highly anticipated CLA Electric sedan for the Indian market, promising an impressive range of up to 792 km. Bookings for this cutting-edge electric vehicle (EV) will open on March 10, with the official launch slated for April.

This launch marks a significant shift in Mercedes-Benz’s offerings, as the CLA Electric will replace the A-Class Limousine, along with the EQA and EQB electric SUVs, setting a new entry-level standard for the brand in India. The expected price range is between Rs 55 lakh and Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a competitive option for EV buyers.

The CLA Electric is built on an advanced 800-volt architecture and features an 85kWh battery pack in the CLA 250+ variant. The car’s remarkable range is attributed to a claimed drivetrain efficiency of 93 percent, an aerodynamic design, and sophisticated energy management systems. The rear-mounted electric motor delivers 272 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in just 6.7 seconds.

What makes the CLA Electric stand out is its unique two-speed gearbox, similar to the Porsche Taycan, enhancing both performance and driving experience. It supports DC fast charging up to 240kW, capable of adding up to 400 km of range in only 20 minutes under optimal conditions.

The exterior design emphasizes the iconic three-pointed star logo, with unique star-shaped elements in the headlamps and tail-lamps, and a closed front grille featuring 142 illuminated star patterns. The car’s dimensions have grown, making it 30mm longer, 25mm wider, and 25mm taller than its predecessor, while maintaining a low drag coefficient of 0.21.

Inside, the CLA offers a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 14-inch central touchscreen running on Mercedes’ new MB.OS software with support for over-the-air updates. It features a glass panel with LED star patterns that complement the ambient lighting, six USB-C ports with 100W fast-charging capability, and a split rear seat configuration.

While the CLA Electric has not yet undergone Bharat NCAP testing, it secured a five-star rating from Euro NCAP in 2025, boasting advanced safety features including front and side airbags and Level 2 ADAS technology.

This launch comes as part of Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to electrification in India, aiming to meet the growing demand for sustainable mobility solutions. As the market continues to evolve, the CLA Electric positions itself as a compelling choice for consumers looking for luxury and performance in the EV segment.
