Teen Couple Found Dead in Holiday Lodge; Investigation Underway

A tragic incident unfolded at Little Eden Holiday Park in Bridlington when teenage couple Ethan Slater, aged 17, and Cherish Bean, aged 15, were found dead in their lodge last month. Preliminary investigations suggest that carbon monoxide poisoning may have played a role in their deaths, as revealed during an inquest at Hull Coroner’s Court.

The couple, both from Sheffield, were enjoying a family holiday when they were discovered deceased. The inquest’s opening session disclosed that the teens were in good health while spending time with family on February 17, 2024. According to Senior Coroner Professor Paul Marks, Cherish had left the family cabin for a smaller lodge known as the “Mancave,” where she and Ethan watched television around 21:00 GMT.

Approximately one hour later, Cherish returned to the main cabin, reporting a headache. She took some Calpol, as the family did not have any paracetamol available. After returning to the smaller lodge, she sent a goodnight text to her mother just after 22:00 GMT, expressing her love. Ethan also returned to the main cabin around the same time.

Detective Chief Inspector Ben Robinson of Humberside Police reported that four individuals linked to the holiday park’s management and maintenance have been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter. They were interviewed and subsequently released on bail.

During the inquest, Professor Marks inquired about the potential link between the couple’s deaths and carbon monoxide poisoning. Detective Chief Inspector Robinson confirmed that there was reason to suspect such a connection. He informed the court that the cabin’s boiler had been retrieved for forensic assessment, with assistance from specialist gas engineers. Investigators have also consulted with the Health and Safety Executive and the National Crime Agency as part of their examination.

The inquest has been adjourned pending the completion of the police investigation. Professor Marks extended his condolences to both families, acknowledging the profound loss they are experiencing.

In a heartfelt statement, Cherish’s mother expressed her devastation, stating, “My perfect girl, my angel, has left this world and we are broken as a family. I am broken as a mother, and I will never ever be the same again.” She emphasized the importance of family and the joyful memories they created together during their holiday, now overshadowed by this tragic event.

As the investigation continues, the families of Ethan and Cherish seek answers and closure in the wake of this heartbreaking loss.
