Dylan Dreyer Reflects on Divorce from Brian Fichera and New Beginnings

Dylan Dreyer, a prominent host of the *Today* show, has opened up about her recent separation from her husband of 12 years, Brian Fichera. The announcement, made via social media in August, revealed that the couple had been living apart for “a few months.” As part of this transition, Dreyer and their three sons—Cal, nine, Ollie, five, and Rusty, four—have moved from their family apartment in New York City to the suburbs of Long Island.

During a recent episode of *Today with Jenna & Friends*, Dreyer discussed the emotions surrounding her divorce, stating that while everyone has unique reasons for such decisions, she found “something freeing” in her situation. “Whatever broke in a marriage, you could either fix it if you can, and ideally you would, and you try, and you try to fix things. Or you accept that it’s broken and you take this new step forward,” she articulated.

Dreyer emphasized that both she and Fichera are now in a better place, having “reframed” their relationship. “We are no longer husband and wife, and all those things that were broken, I don’t hold them against you because we’ve accepted they’re broken,” she explained. The host noted that this new dynamic allows them to approach each other with more understanding. “And I can be a better friend than a wife. And now the boys are surrounded by love,” she added.

In September 2023, Dreyer and Fichera sold their New York City apartment for $1.99 million after reducing the asking price. Originally listed in November 2022 for $2.49 million, the apartment was deemed too small for their growing family. Dreyer shared an emotional farewell to their former home on Instagram, posting a series of photos that captured memories from their children’s bedroom, which featured a triple bunk bed.

“This room holds a lot of memories and I thank God every day for each and every one of them,” she wrote, quoting Ralph Waldo Emerson: “A house is made of walls and beams; a home is built of love and dreams.” Dreyer expressed hope for her sons, stating, “And the boys have a whole lifetime of love and dreams ahead of them! Just not in a triple bunk bed!”

As Dreyer navigates this new chapter, she remains focused on her role as a mother, prioritizing her children’s happiness and stability. Her open reflections provide insight into the complexities of moving forward after a significant life change, while also highlighting the importance of maintaining positive relationships for the well-being of their family.
