Rare Harley-Davidson Bikes Fetch Record Prices at Auction NOW

UPDATE: In an unprecedented turn of events, rare Harley-Davidson motorcycles have shattered auction records, captivating collectors and enthusiasts alike. The 1908 Strap Tank was sold for an astonishing $935,000 at a Las Vegas auction, making it the most expensive motorcycle ever sold in public history.

The Strap Tank was one of only 450 produced that year, with its storied past including a barn discovery in 1941 in Wisconsin, where it was carefully stored for over six decades. This rare model features its original four-horsepower engine and has become a symbol of Harley’s rich heritage.

The auction, held by Mecum, showcased not only the Strap Tank but also other rare models. Notable among them is the 1934 500cc CAC Speedway Racer, of which only 12 were ever made. Despite its limited production due to poor performance, one of the surviving bikes sold for £69,000 (approximately $91,000) at a Bonhams auction in 2025.

Another highlight is the 1910 Model 6-A, which featured revolutionary magneto ignition, allowing for effortless starts without pedaling. Only 334 units were produced, and while its exact survival rate is unknown, one restored example was listed at an auction with a guide price of $85,000 to $95,000.

Additionally, the MX250, Harley’s sole motocross model from 1978, produced around 1,000 units, has become increasingly rare, with only a few known to exist today. The bike’s high price point and suspension issues hindered sales, with one surviving example fetching only $7,605 at a 2012 auction.

Despite its limited production, the Sport model, which marked a significant shift in Harley’s branding strategy, remains a part of the company’s legacy. It was the first Harley to carry a name rather than a number designation, with almost 10,000 sold between 1920 and 1923.

These auction results reflect a growing trend among collectors, as rare Harley-Davidson models become increasingly valuable. The emotional connection to these vintage motorcycles drives their desirability, with many fans understanding the history and craftsmanship behind each bike.

As the market for rare motorcycles rises, industry insiders predict that interest in Harley-Davidson’s historic models will only continue to grow. Collectors and enthusiasts are urged to keep an eye on upcoming auctions, as these rare finds may never be seen again.
