The Chapter One Bookshop in Narberth is hosting two significant literary events this week, spotlighting local authors and their connections to Welsh culture. On November 10, local writer Mark Lewis will present a talk on the life and legacy of actor Richard Burton in honor of what would have been Burton’s 100th birthday. This event is part of the Richard Burton Festival, organized in collaboration with Narberth Museum, which is celebrating the centenary of the Welsh icon.
Lewis’ talk, scheduled from 18:00 to 20:00, will delve into the myths surrounding Burton’s life, work, and notable relationships, particularly with actress Elizabeth Taylor. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view an extensive collection of Burton film posters displayed at Narberth Museum. Tickets for the talk are priced at £5, and the Chapter One bar will be open for refreshments.
The exhibition at Narberth Museum runs until December 19, and another event will follow on December 5, featuring author Angela V John, who will also speak about Burton’s life.
On November 14, Menna Elfyn will take the stage at Chapter One at 18:30 for a reading from her latest poetry collection, Parch. This marks Elfyn’s sixth publication with Bloodaxe Books and includes poems written in both Welsh and English. She will be joined by local writer and translator Emma Baines, who will also read selections from the collection.
Elfyn will sign copies of Parch after the reading, with tickets available for £5. This price includes a 10 percent discount on the book.
