Saundersfoot Coffee Morning Marks 50 Years of Guide Dogs Support

A special coffee morning held at the Harbwr Bar in Saundersfoot celebrated a significant milestone for the Pembrokeshire Fundraising Group of Guide Dogs Cymru. On November 9, 2023, the event marked 50 years of fundraising in the county, successfully raising nearly £900 despite adverse weather conditions, including flooding the previous day.

The gathering drew a supportive crowd who were determined to contribute to the cause, showcasing the community’s commitment to assisting those in need of guide dogs. Among the attendees were notable figures such as Natalie De Maid, Regional Community Fundraising Manager for the Central Region, and Ruth Evans, Community Fundraising Manager for Wales. They were accompanied by guide dog Mobility Specialist Hari Hartnell and several guide dogs, including trainee guide dog Yale and retired guide dog Merry.

During the event, Natalie De Maid expressed her admiration for the group’s dedication over the past five decades. She acknowledged their hard work in promoting the importance of guide dogs in Pembrokeshire and thanked everyone involved for their unwavering support.

Group Organiser Eva Rich also addressed the attendees, expressing gratitude for their participation despite the challenging weather. She extended her appreciation to Andy and the Harbwr Bar for hosting the event and generously donating the coffee. Rich highlighted the significance of community involvement and thanked Helen Hedley for organizing a successful raffle, which included prizes donated by local businesses.

The fundraising efforts from this coffee morning are part of a broader initiative that relies on the continuous support of volunteers and community members. Many individuals, including Adge with guide dog Skip and John with guide dog Eddie, attended to share their personal experiences and the vital roles these guide dogs play in their lives.

As the Pembrokeshire Fundraising Group looks to the future, Rich emphasized the importance of sustaining fundraising efforts for this worthwhile charity. She remarked, “Here’s to the next 50 years of vital fundraising for this very worthwhile charity!”

This celebration not only commemorated past achievements but also highlighted the ongoing need for public support. The group remains grateful for the community’s efforts in caring for collection boxes and assisting with fundraising events throughout the year, ensuring that the mission to support those in need continues robustly.
