Troy Deeney Praises Chelsea’s Estevao, Questions Others’ Quality

Troy Deeney has expressed strong admiration for Chelsea’s young forward, Estevao, while raising concerns about the current quality of several of his teammates. Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Premier League striker highlighted Estevao’s potential, calling him an “absolute monster.” This statement comes as Chelsea sits third in the Premier League table after 11 matches, just six points behind leaders Arsenal, and has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, has made significant changes to the squad, signing players such as Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and Alejandro Garnacho. However, it is the 18-year-old Estevao, a former Palmeiras winger, who is stealing the spotlight. Since joining, Estevao has recorded four goals and one assist in his first 16 appearances, showcasing his talent on a global stage during the Club World Cup. Deeney noted that Estevao’s five goal contributions make him stand out among Chelsea’s wingers, with only Pedro Neto matching this performance, albeit with considerably more playing time.

Deeney’s comments reflect a broader concern about the quality of Chelsea’s other wingers. The former striker suggested that while players like Gittens and Garnacho have also contributed four goals each, he questions whether they can reach the same heights as Estevao. He stated, “Chelsea have got the young kid Estevao who is going to be an absolute monster,” emphasizing the potential he sees in the young talent.

In addition to Estevao’s contributions, Deeney pointed out issues with the team’s strikers. Joao Pedro has been effective, netting seven goals and providing three assists in his first 17 games, yet he has thrived more in a No.10 role rather than as a traditional striker. Meanwhile, Delap has struggled with injuries and faced criticism after receiving a red card shortly after returning to the pitch. Deeney remarked on Delap’s challenges, noting, “He is struggling at the moment, whether it be through injury, whether it be through getting sent off.”

He continued, observing that this is the first time Delap is facing a low block, which has required him to adapt his game. “There’s a lot of development there,” Deeney added.

Chelsea’s next match is scheduled for November 22, when they travel to face Burnley. As the team continues to navigate the season, the development of young talents like Estevao will be crucial for their success.

Fans remain eager to see how Chelsea will perform as they look to build on their current standing in both the league and cup competitions. Following the international break, all eyes will be on Chelsea to see if they can maintain their momentum and enhance their squad’s quality.
