Burnside Primary School in Rutherglen is preparing for its annual Christmas fayre, a much-anticipated event designed to engage the local community and raise funds for student activities. Scheduled for Saturday, December 6, the fayre promises a festive atmosphere, attracting hundreds of families and residents eager to participate in the celebrations.
The event is organized by the Burnside Parent Council, a registered charity that collaborates closely with the school. Volunteers have been tirelessly planning a day filled with enjoyable activities, including games, home baking, and a raffle. Children will have the opportunity to meet Santa in his workshop, assisted by Santa’s elves, adding to the festive charm of the day.
Local businesses will contribute to the fayre by running stalls, allowing visitors to begin their Christmas shopping early. Lyndsey Shakespeare, chair of the Burnside Parent Council, highlighted the strong community support that the fayre consistently receives. “Every year, we get great support from many of the businesses in Burnside, and beyond. This year is no different with lots of amazing raffle prizes donated by local organisations like the Ace Place Nursery, HD Aesthetic, and Caledonia Gladiators,” she said.
The fayre will feature a diverse range of local vendors showcasing items from homeware to beauty products, as well as children’s books and clothes. This variety aims to cater to the interests of all attendees, making it a true winter wonderland experience.
Last year’s fayre was a remarkable success, raising nearly £6,000 to support extracurricular activities, lunchtime clubs, and school trips for Burnside Primary students. Gayle McDonald, head teacher of Burnside Primary School, expressed her anticipation for this year’s event. “The Christmas fayre is always a highlight of the year for the kids and for the school. It’s also a great chance to bring the community into the school, and we’re looking forward to welcoming hundreds of people through our doors to start our Christmas celebrations,” she stated.
The fayre will take place from 11:00 to 14:00 on December 6. Individuals interested in making raffle donations or operating a stall are encouraged to contact the parent council at [email protected].
This annual event not only fosters community spirit but also plays a crucial role in enhancing the educational experience for pupils at Burnside Primary, demonstrating the power of local engagement and support.
