Two Teenagers Arrested After Police Helicopter Chase in Bidston

URGENT UPDATE: Two teenagers have been arrested following a dramatic police helicopter chase in Bidston after reports of anti-social bike riding. The incident unfolded on November 19 at approximately 11:10 PM, when Merseyside Police were alerted to nuisance motorbike and moped activity on Upton Road.

Witnesses reported the riders disturbing the peace before fleeing towards Bidston Hill, where they abandoned a stolen motorbike and moped near Bidston Observatory. Both vehicles were confirmed as stolen by authorities.

A police helicopter was deployed, and officers successfully tracked the suspects to a wooded area near Eleanor Road, Birkenhead. A 15-year-old boy from Beechwood and a 16-year-old boy from Woodchurch were apprehended on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, driving without a license, and driving without insurance. They have been taken to local police stations for questioning and released under investigation as inquiries continue.

Chief Inspector Derek Riley from the Matrix Disruption team stated, “This was not a game of hide and seek these two were ever likely to win, with eyes in the sky, wheels on the roads, and feet on the ground.” He emphasized the serious risks associated with vehicle crime and anti-social behavior, noting that what may appear as harmless fun can lead to severe injuries or fatalities on the roads.

Authorities urge the community to assist in reducing crime by reporting suspicious activities. If a crime is in progress, call 999. To report anonymously, contact Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 or reach out to Merseyside Police via their social media channels.
