Police in Tivat, Montenegro, have charged two 17-year-old girls with attempted extortion after an investigation into their alleged criminal activities. The charges stem from an incident in which the teenagers reportedly threatened a peer, demanding money in exchange for not releasing explicit content.
According to the Police Administration of Montenegro, the girls contacted the victim from a hidden phone number. They informed her that they would make public a recording containing explicit material unless she paid them a specified amount of money. This act constituted an attempt at extortion, leading the police to take immediate action.
The investigation involved extensive efforts to identify the suspects. Authorities discovered that the two individuals were local residents, both aged 17, from Tivat. In light of the seriousness of the allegations, police officials conducted interviews with the suspects in the presence of their legal guardians.
Following these interviews, the police reported the findings to the Prosecutor’s Office in Kotor. The prosecutor officially classified the act as attempted extortion, prompting the filing of charges against the two minors. This case highlights ongoing concerns regarding the use of technology in criminal activities among young individuals.
As the legal process unfolds, it remains crucial for communities to address the prevention of such incidents, particularly in relation to the digital exploitation of minors. The police have reassured the public that they are committed to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of all citizens, especially vulnerable youth.
