Andrea Berisaj Wins Bronze at European Taekwondo Championships

At the European Taekwondo Championships held in Switzerland, eighteen-year-old Andrea Berisaj claimed a bronze medal, marking a remarkable achievement for Montenegro in senior-level taekwondo. This competition coincided with the continuation of the European Junior Championships, where Montenegro had three representatives competing.

Berisaj, a member of TK “S3”, showcased her skills in the under-67 kg category. She triumphed over Tijana Nikolic from Serbia and Cloe Blitek from France, securing her place on the podium. Her quest for gold was halted in the semifinal round by Nilsen Romund from Norway, who ultimately advanced to the finals.

In addition to Berisaj’s impressive performance, fellow Montenegrin competitor Ognjen Komatina from TK “Olimp” fought in the under-80 kg category. He achieved victory against Tomas Sitteka from the Czech Republic but was eliminated in the second round by Aleksandr Muskevits of Estonia. Another competitor, Zinedin Becovic from TK “S3”, faced a setback against Russian athlete Stepan Slepop.

The coaching team has emphasized that Berisaj’s bronze medal is a significant achievement that warrants special recognition. They have expressed optimism about her potential for future success at upcoming world and European competitions for younger athletes.

The results from Switzerland highlight not just individual accomplishments but also the growing presence of Montenegrin athletes on the European stage. As the sport continues to evolve, the focus remains on nurturing talent and striving for excellence in international competitions.
