UPDATE: A North East drug dealer has been sentenced to 42 months in prison for orchestrating a cocaine supply operation that generated up to £107,000 in just four months. Michael Hall, 42, from Gateshead, was arrested following an investigation by the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit that uncovered his involvement in a “county lines” drug dealing network.
In a shocking revelation, Newcastle Crown Court heard that Hall sent out nearly 10,500 bulk messages advertising cocaine for sale to residents in Gateshead between April and August 2023. Prosecutor Sam Faulks detailed how Hall’s operation led to an estimated 1,500 drug deals during this period, with 429 repeat customers indicating a troubling demand for illicit drugs in the area.
Authorities confirmed that when Hall was apprehended, police recovered crucial evidence, including drug scales, self-sealed bags, and nearly £2,000 in cash, which Hall claimed was from an innocent source. Faulks emphasized that Hall was part of an organized crime line, expecting significant financial gain from his illegal activities.
Hall’s defense attorney, Tony Davis, argued that his client was manipulated by more sophisticated criminals after falling into debt. However, he ultimately acknowledged Hall’s responsibility, stating, “I accept he has no one to blame but himself. He has expressed genuine remorse.”
This case highlights the ongoing issue of drug trafficking in the North East, particularly through “county lines” operations that exploit vulnerable individuals. The community is urged to remain vigilant as law enforcement continues to crack down on such illegal activities.
WHAT’S NEXT: As the investigation continues, residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to local authorities. The North East Regional Organised Crime Unit remains committed to tackling drug-related crimes and ensuring the safety of the community.
