Glasgow’s Celtic Connections Festival Hosts Pop-Up Gigs This Weekend

URGENT UPDATE: Glasgow is set to experience an exhilarating wave of live music this weekend as the Celtic Connections festival kicks off with intimate pop-up gigs in local coffee shops. This exciting initiative aims to showcase some of Scotland’s most talented emerging artists, and it all happens on November 29, 2023.

Scottish singer-songwriter Katie Gregson-MacLeod, who gained fame through TikTok, is urging young Glaswegians to step out and immerse themselves in these unique performances. Three coffee shops will host live music sessions featuring up-and-coming artists, allowing attendees to discover new sounds and support local talent.

The pop-up performances will take place at:
Patricia’s x SLB in the Southside
Through The House in the City Centre
Black Pine in the West End

Expect cozy, electrifying sets from acts like the country group Grayling, the award-winning folk trio Fell Line, and indie folk singer-songwriter Mairi Sutherland. This is a rare opportunity to experience live music in an intimate setting, making it a must-see for fans of all ages.

Katie emphasizes the importance of attending live performances, especially for younger audiences. “Going out less has become a trend among young people, so these daytime coffee-shop shows are a perfect way to bring them into the festival community,” she stated.

In addition to enjoying music, young attendees are invited to join the festival’s Under 26 Community via QR codes available at each venue. Joining automatically enters participants into a draw for a Celtic Connections Golden Ticket, which offers an exclusive meet-up with Katie Gregson-MacLeod. The winner will receive personalized festival recommendations and tickets to various shows, alongside a meal at the Innis & Gunn Glasgow Taproom.

Katie, 24, from Inverness, is committed to promoting the significance of live music, especially in a time when many artists struggle to connect with audiences. “The most important things in my life and career will always be playing live shows and making music I’m proud of,” she shared, highlighting the unique bond formed in live settings.

The full Celtic Connections festival will officially run from January 15 to February 1, 2026, showcasing a wide array of folk, roots, and world music. Tickets for the festival can be purchased online via the official website.
