Brave 6-Year-Old Ollie Noble Overcomes Cancer Setback, Thrives

UPDATE: Six-year-old Oliver Noble, a brave cancer warrior from Ryton, is thriving after overcoming a life-threatening battle with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and a severe setback that left him in a coma. Just announced at the Bravehearts ceremony held at St James’ Park in Newcastle, Ollie has been honored for his incredible courage and resilience.

Ollie’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. Initially diagnosed as a toddler, he faced numerous challenges during his lengthy treatment, including a critical bout of sepsis. His father, Dave Noble, described the harrowing moment when doctors feared they had lost him. “It was one of those horrible dramatic moments – but a doctor came in, gave him an injection, and was able to bring him around. The staff, they were fantastic,” he said.

Now back at school, Ollie is thriving and has even been recognized as a little maths genius. “He’s full time at school and absolutely smashing it,” Dave shared, reflecting on Ollie’s impressive recovery. Alongside his older brother Max, Ollie raised over £1,000 for Children’s Cancer North during the recent Great North Run weekend, showcasing his commitment to helping others despite his own challenges.

At the Bravehearts ceremony, which honored 20 young heroes from across the region, charity trustee Chris Metcalfe read a touching citation celebrating Ollie’s journey. “From relearning how to smile, walk, and communicate, Ollie has fought his way back with incredible determination. His courage and resilience make him a truly deserving Bravehearts award recipient,” Metcalfe stated.

The Braveheart awards, held bi-annually, recognize children and teenagers facing serious medical conditions. This year’s event featured appearances from renowned figures such as newsreader Carol Malia and paralympian Josef Craig, with video messages of support from Alan Shearer and Mark Knopfler.

Founded in 1989, the charity has now honored 776 children over more than 35 years, creating what they call a “very special family.” This inspiring initiative was inspired by the determination of Joanne Gillespie, a brain tumour patient who sought to uplift other young patients facing terminal illness.

As Ollie continues to shine, his story serves as a beacon of hope for many families battling similar challenges. Stay tuned for more updates as Ollie embarks on his ongoing journey of recovery and advocacy.
