Man Banned from Major UK Retailers After Theft Conviction

A 57-year-old man, Christopher Moran, has been prohibited from entering numerous retail stores across the United Kingdom following a series of thefts. The decision comes after he pleaded guilty to ten counts of theft at Preston Magistrates Court on November 27, 2023. As a result of his criminal activities, Moran has been sentenced to twelve weeks in custody, which will run concurrently with an existing fifty-two-week sentence he is currently serving for separate offenses.

Moran, who has no fixed address, is now banned from all Tesco, Co-op, Sainsbury’s, B&M, TK Maxx, Iceland, Booths, and Trespass stores throughout the UK. In addition to this extensive ban, he is also restricted from entering Preston Marina, Navigation Way, and the entire Penwortham exclusion zone. Under the terms of his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), he is required to vacate any store immediately if requested by an employee and must return any items he may have selected before leaving.

According to a spokesperson for Lancashire Police, CBOs are designed to target repeat offenders who are known to engage in criminal behavior within a specified area. The aim is to prevent further criminal actions by those convicted of offenses. South Ribble Police highlighted Moran’s extensive criminal history, stating, “This is Christopher Moran; he is a prolific shoplifter who targeted shops across South Ribble and Preston in a sustained shoplifting spree.”

The sentencing and subsequent bans reflect ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address theft and shoplifting incidents affecting retailers. The measures taken against Moran are intended to deter similar behavior in the future and ensure a safer shopping environment for both customers and staff.
