Newcastle’s People’s Kitchen Hosts Urgent Christmas Street Party

URGENT UPDATE: The People’s Kitchen in Newcastle held a heartwarming Christmas Street Party and light switch-on on December 4, 2023, bringing hope and joy to around 250 vulnerable attendees. This festive gathering, just outside the charity’s home on Bath Lane, aimed to uplift those affected by homelessness during the holiday season.

The event kicked off at 6 PM, featuring live music from local choirs and bands, a visit from Santa, and a delicious hot meal for all. Volunteers, trustees, and supporters rallied together to create a festive atmosphere, demonstrating the charity’s commitment to serving those in need. According to Maggie Pavlou, a trustee of the organization, “Tonight is very special as we are having our street party for our friends… It’s great for all the volunteers to come together to help look after our friends that come across to us every night.”

The People’s Kitchen has been a cornerstone of support in Newcastle for over 35 years, serving up to 250 meals each session, all prepared from scratch by dedicated volunteers. The charity operates entirely on donations, with no government funding, making initiatives like the “Feed a Friend for a Fiver” campaign crucial. For just £5, donors can provide a warm Christmas dinner to someone in need.

This year’s event not only marked the beginning of the festive celebrations but also highlighted the community’s resilience and generosity. As Christmas approaches, the need for support remains critical, and the People’s Kitchen continues to encourage donations to sustain its vital services.

As the lights twinkled to life, attendees savored the holiday spirit amidst a backdrop of music and laughter, reaffirming the charity’s mission to spread warmth and compassion. The People’s Kitchen invites everyone to join in their ongoing efforts to support the community, ensuring that no one has to face the holiday season alone.
