BREAKING: Rhyl High School will close on December 12, 2025, to honor the life of teaching assistant Angela Shellis, who tragically passed away last week. The 45-year-old mother was found deceased near football fields in Prestatyn on October 24. Her son, Tristan Thomas Roberts, aged 18, has been charged with her murder, with a trial anticipated next year.
Headteacher Philip Collins announced the school’s closure in a letter to parents, ensuring that staff can attend Ms. Shellis’s funeral. In his message, he expressed the community’s profound sorrow: “Angela was a valued member of staff who joined the Rhyl High team in 2023. We are deeply upset as a school community and hold Angela’s family and friends foremost in our thoughts.”
The school will provide online work via Google Classrooms for students on the day of the funeral. Additionally, students eligible for free school meals will receive a grab bag of food from the school site. Collins acknowledged the logistical challenges this closure may pose for families, urging them to make necessary arrangements.
As the school community grapples with this loss, Collins emphasized the importance of coming together to support Angela’s family during this difficult time. “This has been a challenging time for the school, and I thank you in advance for your support,” he stated.
The tragic circumstances surrounding Ms. Shellis’s death have left a significant impact on the Rhyl High School community, highlighting the need for compassion and solidarity in times of grief.
