UPDATE: British designer Es Devlin has just unveiled her stunning installation, “Library of Us,” at Faena Beach in Miami, coinciding with the bustling Miami Art Week. This extraordinary, rotating structure spans 50 feet and houses an impressive 2,500 titles, making it a beacon of literature and community engagement.
The installation, part of the Faena Arts program, features a striking triangular design adorned with a 34-foot-long LED text strip. Every 10 minutes, the library rotates on a metallic plinth, casting vibrant hues onto the water below, creating a visual spectacle perfect for both art lovers and casual beachgoers.
Visitors are invited to relax at its two-ring circular table, where they can enjoy passages from the books while experiencing a unique sense of togetherness. An enchanting 250-excerpt audio score, narrated by Devlin herself, enhances the immersive experience, blending memories, literary fragments, and music into the atmosphere.
In an impactful move, all 2,500 books featured in “Library of Us” will be donated to public libraries, schools, and community organizations across Miami after the installation closes on December 7. This initiative, in partnership with Penguin Random House, underscores a commitment to enriching the community through literature.
As Miami Art Week unfolds, “Library of Us” stands out as a serene retreat from the fairground chaos, inviting visitors to engage with art and literature in a refreshing environment.
