UPDATE: Melvin Odoom, known for his role on I’m A Celebrity, has revealed the jungle was one of the “scariest” experiences of his life and officially ruled out a return to the reality show. In a candid discussion, the 45-year-old radio and TV star described the challenges he faced during his time on the ITV program, which aired last year.
Speaking about his experience, Odoom stated, “It was one of the best things I’ve ever done. But I would say it’s one of the scariest things I’ve ever done.” He emphasized the emotional and physical toll the environment took on him, particularly noting the intense weather conditions. “The weather when we were there was so bad… we’d be sleeping in our sleeping bags, and if it was windy, it would blow onto our beds,” he recounted.
Despite the hardships, Melvin Odoom highlighted the positive aspects of the experience, calling it “the greatest detox ever.” He explained, “You don’t have your phone, there’s no screen time, there’s no blue screen.” This disconnect from technology led to a refreshing change, as he noted that after leaving the jungle, he took hours before turning his phone back on.
Odoom, who entered the competition weighing 71 kg and left at 64 kg, mentioned the basic diet of rice and beans as particularly challenging. He humorously remarked, “It literally has no taste,” but acknowledged that it was the first time he saw his abs in years.
While many former contestants have returned for an All Star edition filmed in South Africa, Odoom declared his experience as “one and done.” He shared with the Express, “The lack of control was tough… sometimes you don’t know what day it is.” His reflections reveal a deeper understanding of his own personality, admitting, “I realized I’m a bit of a control freak.”
In addition to his reality show revelations, Odoom is currently promoting the NHS’s Healthy Choices Quiz alongside fellow DJ Rickie Haywood-Williams. The free quiz allows individuals to assess their lifestyle choices and receive personalized health plans. Odoom stressed the importance of health as he ages, sharing, “I’ve joined a running club and made changes within my lifestyle, like cutting down on drinking.” He noted the significant difference in his mood and energy levels since making these changes.
Melvin Odoom’s journey from the jungle to promoting health and wellness highlights the impact of personal growth and the importance of making informed lifestyle choices. He encourages others to take the Healthy Choices Quiz to gain insights into their own health and well-being.
As the conversation around mental and physical health continues to grow, Odoom’s candid reflections serve as a reminder of the challenges we all face and the opportunities for positive change.
