The films, which garnered key awards at Ventana Sur, include a gripping drama centered on a mother-daughter relationship amid rural depopulation in the Andes, directed by Álvaro Olmos Torrico. This film not only won the Cine+ Award at Ventana Sur 2024 but also premiered at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this year, followed by screenings at Biarritz and FIC Cali, where it clinched awards for Best Feature and Best International Film.
Bendita’s representative, Luis Renart, emphasized the significance of these deals, stating, “With these deals, we feel we are closing a circle that began here at Ventana Sur one year ago.” The journey of these films from initial screenings to international acclaim showcases their potential in the global market.
Another standout film in the package is directed by Mayra Hermosillo, who is not only the writer and director but also an acclaimed actress known for her role in Netflix productions. This film portrays the struggles of several generations of women in late-1980s Mexico and won the Best Screenplay for Authors Under 40 Award at the Venice Giornate degli Autori. It also received accolades at Ventana Sur 2024 and Cinélatino Toulouse, further solidifying its impact.
The third film, an intimate reflection on identity and personal reinvention, is directed by Avelina Prat and features performances from Maria de Medeiros and Manolo Solo. This film premiered at the Málaga Festival and is produced in cooperation with Distinto Films and Jaibo Films from Spain.
