Wenne Alton Davis, a talented performer known for roles in The Marvelous Mrs Maisel and Girls5eva, has tragically passed away at the age of 60. Davis died after being struck by a car in New York City on December 8, 2023. The incident occurred at the intersection of West 53rd Street and Broadway in Midtown Manhattan.
The vehicle, a black 2023 Cadillac XT6, was driven by a 61-year-old man making a left turn when it collided with Davis. According to a statement from the New York Police Department, Davis “sustained severe trauma to the head and body.” Emergency services transported Davis to Mount Sinai West, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The driver remained at the scene and reported no injuries. Currently, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing, led by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad.
Born on October 18, 1965, in Durham, North Carolina, Davis moved to New York City in her twenties to pursue a career in comedy and acting. At the time of her death, she resided in the Forest Hills area of Queens, sharing her home with her cat, Roxie. To support her acting career, Davis worked as a member of the security staff at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Friends and family have expressed their grief and shared fond memories of Davis. Jamie Harris, Davis’s agent at Clear Talent Group, described her as “a bright light.” Harris stated, “She had a huge love for New York, for acting, and for her colleagues at JFK, and most of all, her family and friends.” Reflecting on Davis’s character, Harris emphasized her kindness, saying, “Friendliness and kindness were not what she did but who she was as a person.”
Edward Reynoso, a neighbor of Davis, recalled their last interaction earlier that day. He described how Davis expressed her appreciation for him, saying, “I love you, I appreciate you.” Reynoso found the moment poignant, feeling as if it was a farewell. He characterized Davis as “very driven, compassionate, and giving,” and expressed how much he would miss her “smile, laugh, and joie de vivre.”
Davis’s career included notable performances in various productions, including a minor role as a police officer in The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, as well as appearances in The Normal Heart, New Amsterdam, Blind Spot, American Odyssey, and Rescue Me. Her contributions to the entertainment industry and her vibrant personality will be deeply missed by colleagues and fans alike.
