Police Seize Weapons and Explosives in Bijelo Polje Raid

In a significant operation targeting illegal firearms, police in Bijelo Polje discovered a cache of weapons and explosives during a recent search. Officers from the Regional Centre for Security “North” initiated the investigation, which culminated in a raid on the residence of a local individual identified as V.N.. The authorities acted based on a court-issued warrant, leading to the seizure of multiple firearms and ammunition.

During the search, law enforcement officials confiscated four rifles, including an Italian model with a calibre of 6.15 mm, a pump-action shotgun, and two hunting rifles manufactured by CZ. In addition, a 7.62 mm pistol, 151 rounds of assorted ammunition, and a cumulative mine designated as M60 were also found. The illegal possession of such items raises serious concerns for public safety, particularly as civilians are prohibited from owning explosive devices.

While V.N. held the pistol legally, it was temporarily confiscated and submitted to the relevant branch of the Ministry of Interior (MUP) for further legal proceedings aimed at permanent forfeiture. The police department emphasized the importance of this operation in the broader context of reducing illegal firearms availability across the country.

Continued Efforts to Curb Illegal Weapons

Authorities reiterated their commitment to ongoing preventive and enforcement measures designed to diminish the presence of illegal weapons. The police will persist in their efforts to locate and confiscate items that can be seized under the Criminal Procedure Code (ZKP), thereby fostering a safer environment for residents.

The recent discovery underscores the critical need for vigilance in addressing the issue of illegal firearms, as such weapons can significantly contribute to crime rates and public insecurity. Law enforcement officials are determined to enhance their operations to ensure the safety of communities throughout the region.

In summary, the operation in Bijelo Polje serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges posed by illegal arms possession and the decisive actions being taken by police to mitigate these risks.
