Urgent: Orange Rain Alert Issued for Cork and Kerry This Weekend

UPDATE: An urgent weather alert has just been issued by Met Eireann, warning of heavy rain in Cork and Kerry from 3 AM to 6 PM on Sunday. Drivers are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution as significant rainfall is expected, particularly in higher areas, which could lead to dangerous flooding.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has alerted motorists that the predicted downpours may result in flooded roads and severely reduced visibility. This warning comes as part of a larger weather system affecting the region, with additional yellow rain warnings in effect for Clare, Limerick, Donegal, and Connacht from 6 PM Saturday to midnight Sunday. Tipperary, Waterford, and Wexford will also face yellow rain warnings from midnight Sunday until 3 AM Monday.

Authorities are urging all drivers to “check local traffic and weather conditions before setting out on a journey,” as the anticipated rainfall could lead to hazardous driving conditions. The RSA emphasizes that safety should be a top priority during this inclement weather.

In Northern Ireland, a yellow rain warning has also been issued for Sunday and Monday, indicating that the impacts of this weather system will be widespread throughout the region.

As the situation develops, residents in affected areas are encouraged to stay informed via local news outlets and official weather updates. The RSA and Met Eireann are expected to provide ongoing information as the weather conditions evolve.

Stay safe and be prepared for potentially treacherous conditions on the roads this weekend.
