Father Survives Four Days on £10 Asda Shopping Challenge

A father embarking on a challenge to survive four days on just £10 at Asda has shared his surprising experience of how far his modest budget stretched. Known online as Just Deano, he documented his journey to test whether he could sustain himself from Saturday through to Monday, aiming for a full 72 hours on a limited budget.

Deano began by withdrawing £10 from an ATM, entering the supermarket with no prior preparation. He managed to purchase approximately 15 items, including essentials such as white bread, pasta sauce, baked beans, and chicken drumsticks. Among his best finds, he highlighted a substantial 1.1 kilograms of chicken drumsticks for just £1.92, remarking on the value despite the expected bone weight.

For his first day, Deano started with scrambled eggs on toast, followed by a sausage sandwich for lunch. He capped off the day with a frozen pizza, priced at £1.10, which he praised for its quality. His experience with budget ingredients sparked his curiosity about taste, especially when he prepared 28p beans for a midday meal.

Reflecting on the beans, he stated, “Beans are beans, aren’t they? But are they really? They are alright to be fair,” indicating a willingness to embrace economical options. He prepared meals for his family, including his wife and daughter, and cooked the chicken drumsticks in bulk, setting aside portions for future dinners. Deano even turned two jacket potatoes into roasties and mash, alongside roasted carrots.

As he transitioned into the third day, Deano admitted the challenge was becoming “tricky” as supplies dwindled. Breakfast consisted of toast again, and he creatively repurposed leftover chicken bones and skin to make a chicken and mushroom broth with instant noodles. Despite initial appearances, he discovered the dish was surprisingly flavorful.

By the end of the challenge, Deano expressed his satisfaction with the results. He noted, “I think I have done well there. I wasn’t expecting it to last four days.” His reflections resonated with viewers, many of whom offered feedback on his culinary choices. One commenter praised the challenge, stating, “Wasn’t an easy challenge, living on £10 nowadays. But you managed to make the food spin out four days, very good.”

Deano’s video, which has gained traction among his 36,400 followers, showcases not only his innovative cooking but also serves as a commentary on budget living in today’s economy. As rising food costs continue to affect many households, his experience underscores the importance of resourcefulness and creativity in meal preparation.
