Restaurant group Various Eateries has finalized a deal to expand its operations into the pub sector, announcing plans to change its corporate name to Coppa Collective. The group, known for its Coppa Club and Noci venues, will acquire a portfolio of pubs with rooms from Grosvenor Pubs and Inns for a total of £11.25 million. The transaction is expected to conclude on or around March 23, 2024, with the potential for an additional acquisition in the near future.
The acquisition includes four initial sites: Wild Thyme & Honey in the Cotswolds, The Hare & Hounds in Berkshire, The Stag on the River in Surrey, and The Wellington Arms in Hampshire. A fifth site, The Queen’s Head in Surrey, is also being considered. This particular venue is subject to an “asset of community value” designation, which requires compliance with statutory notification and moratorium periods that may extend up to six weeks before a sale can proceed.
Founded by Hugh Osmond, the original creator of Punch Pubs, Various Eateries currently operates 20 venues, which include restaurants, clubhouses, and hotels. The planned acquisition signifies a strategic shift for the company as it aims to diversify its offerings and enhance its market presence. Following the completion of the deal, Various Eateries will introduce a third brand under its umbrella, named The Linwood Collection.
Mark Loughborough, chief executive of Various Eateries, emphasized the significance of this expansion. He stated, “Linwood marks an important step in the evolution of the group. We are bringing into the business a small collection of premium pubs with rooms that have earned their reputations the right way, through great hospitality, careful attention to detail and a real sense of place.” He further noted that the concept of premium pubs with rooms aligns well with current market trends, combining quality food and drink with accommodation options.
This move comes shortly after the group expressed its intention to explore merger and acquisition opportunities as part of its growth strategy. As Various Eateries transitions to Coppa Collective, it aims to position itself effectively within the competitive hospitality landscape, capitalizing on the rising demand for destination-oriented dining and lodging experiences.
