Residents of East Riding of Yorkshire can explore new learning opportunities in January through a series of £5 taster sessions offered by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Adult Learning service. This initiative, part of the “Learning for Leisure” project, aims to encourage community members to engage in various workshops, including pottery, sewing, and Spanish.
The taster sessions will be available at several Adult Learning and Employability centres located in Bridlington, Beverley, Cottingham, and Goole. This initiative not only promotes skill development but also invites individuals to broaden their horizons with new activities, making learning both accessible and enjoyable.
In addition to the taster workshops, the Adult Learning service is promoting various educational pathways. Residents are encouraged to consider qualifications that enhance practical skills, such as budgeting and digital literacy. The digital gifting scheme allows access to devices, aiding those who may need support in navigating the online world. Furthermore, courses aimed at improving functional English and Maths skills are offered at entry-level or equivalent to GCSE standards, addressing real-life challenges in the workplace.
Anne Handley, leader of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, expressed pride in the initiative, stating, “We’re proud to support lifelong learning across our region, and Try January is a great opportunity to improve skills and try something new.” She emphasized the importance of community involvement and urged interested residents to learn more about the available courses.
Individuals can easily sign up for the £5 taster sessions or inquire about other courses by contacting the Adult Learning team directly. They can reach out by calling 01482 887670, emailing [email protected], or visiting the official website at https://eryc.link/try-jan.
As January approaches, this initiative stands as a significant opportunity for East Riding residents to enhance their skills and discover new interests, all while fostering a spirit of lifelong learning within the community.
