Montenegro Government Approves Student Subsidies for 2025

The Government of Montenegro has announced a new financial support initiative for students enrolled in the Applied Physiotherapy Program at the Medical Faculty of the University of Montenegro. During a recent meeting, officials agreed to provide subsidies of €250 per month to assist with accommodation and food costs for the academic year spanning from September 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025.

Concerns had previously been raised by students regarding the delays in receiving these subsidies. Many students emphasized the importance of this financial aid, noting that unlike their peers at other state faculties, they do not have guaranteed accommodation or meal provisions. This disparity has led some students to borrow money in order to meet their housing expenses on time.

The announcement from the Government clarified that the financial resources for these subsidies will be jointly provided by the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, the University of Montenegro, and the municipality of Herceg Novi. Each will contribute to the monthly support: the Ministry and the University will each provide €100, while the municipality will contribute €50.

Long-standing Housing and Nutrition Issues

The Applied Physiotherapy Program was established in 2004, and since its inception, students have faced ongoing challenges regarding accommodation and nutrition. This initiative marks the first time that these institutions have collaborated to address these issues, building on efforts initiated during the previous academic year.

According to the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, a total of 116 students from the applied physiotherapy program will benefit from this financial support. The initiative aims to ease the financial burden for those studying away from their permanent residence, particularly those who do not hail from Herceg Novi.

This development is a significant step towards ensuring that all students have access to essential resources while pursuing their education. The collaboration among the Ministry, the University, and the local government illustrates a commitment to supporting students in their academic journeys.
