Nigeria and UAE Forge Partnership to Enhance Youth Digital Education

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development in Nigeria has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE Digital School, part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiative (MBRGI). This agreement aims to enhance access to digital education and practical skills for Nigerian youth, utilizing the framework of the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA). The formal signing took place in Dubai, marking a significant development in Nigeria’s strategy to prepare its young population for active engagement in the global digital economy.

The collaboration follows discussions held in July 2025 between the Nigerian Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, and key officials from the UAE government and international development partners. During the signing ceremony, Olawande emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “This collaboration is a promise to equip Nigerian youth with the skills, tools, and opportunities they need to thrive in a fast-changing digital world.” He expressed gratitude towards the UAE government and its citizens for their ongoing support for global development initiatives.

Strengthening Digital Education Initiatives

The UAE Digital School, spearheaded by Dr. Waleed Al Ali, is recognized as a key initiative within MBRGI that aims to provide digital learning opportunities to underserved communities across the globe. Through this partnership, Nigeria intends to utilize the school’s advanced digital infrastructure, resources, and expertise. This strategic move is expected to significantly enhance digital inclusion and education for young Nigerians.

Olawande also commended the ministry’s technical partner, Sapphital Limited, for its vital role in the success of NiYA and similar digital empowerment projects. He highlighted the commitment of his team at the ministry, acknowledging their efforts in bringing this initiative to fruition. The partnership is anticipated to accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda by offering access to modern, skill-based education that prepares youth for the future workforce.

The Minister concluded by stating that the agreement not only benefits Nigeria but also symbolizes a collective responsibility and hope for the youth of both nations. As Nigeria continues to navigate its digital transformation, initiatives like this are critical in equipping the next generation with the necessary skills to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
