Todd Snider Cancels Tour Following Violent Assault in Salt Lake City

Country musician Todd Snider has canceled his current tour following a violent assault that left him with severe injuries. The announcement came shortly after Snider, aged 59, was targeted outside his hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he was scheduled to perform as part of his High, Lonesome and Then Some… 2025 Tour.

The cancellation of the tour was confirmed through a statement on Snider’s social media. The message expressed the team’s heartbreak over the situation and noted that he would be unable to perform for an undetermined period while receiving medical treatment. The statement read: “We deeply apologise for the cancellation and any inconvenience it causes. We appreciate your understanding as Todd receives needed medical treatment.”

Snider had launched his tour on October 30, 2023, in Englewood, Colorado, and was heading to Salt Lake City for his next show when the incident occurred. Salt Lake City police reported that they were investigating an alleged assault of a 59-year-old male at the Commonwealth Room, the venue where Snider was set to perform.

After the incident, Snider was treated at Holy Cross Hospital and reportedly discharged against medical advice. Shortly thereafter, he returned to the hospital and allegedly made threats toward staff members, leading to his arrest for disorderly conduct, trespassing, and making a violent threat. He was arrested on November 2, 2023, at 19:10 and was released just before 03:00 the following day without bail, having signed a promise to appear in court.

This incident comes after Snider had previously taken a three-year hiatus from touring due to health complications related to spinal stenosis, a condition that causes pressure on the spinal cord and significant pain. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Snider expressed his desire for this tour to be enjoyable, stating, “I want this tour to be the funnest one. I at least want to do it one more time.”

Snider’s career began in the 1990s with the release of his debut album, Songs for the Daily Planet, and he has since released a total of 20 albums. Fans had looked forward to upcoming performances in cities including Phoenix, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle as part of this tour.

As Snider navigates this challenging time, his team has promised to provide updates regarding rescheduling and the artist’s recovery. The incident has raised concerns among fans and the music community, who are rallying to show their support for the artist as he seeks the necessary treatment and healing.
